In the injection molding industry, injection molding machines are equipped with a dedicated mold temperature control system, commonly referred to as a mold temperature machine, which is used to heat or cool the mold and maintain its operating temperature, ensure stable quality of injection molded parts, and optimize processing time. The mold temperature machine consists of an electrical part and a fluid delivery part. The former includes a controller, switch/safety elements, temperature sensors, etc., while the latter includes a heater, cooler, main pump, safety elements, etc. As the neural center of the mold temperature machine, the controller is responsible for arranging the entire workflow of the mold temperature machine, and is related to its working performance. Therefore, designing a control system with superior performance, complete functions, and easy operation is the core and key of mold temperature machine design technology.
Most temperature control modules of traditional mold temperature machines use PID control algorithms, which have high accuracy and good stability. However, when the initial temperature and target temperature differ greatly, the system response time is long. In addition, the adjustment of PID parameters is also relatively difficult, which will greatly reduce the adaptive ability of the system. In view of this, this article focuses on designing the temperature control module of the mold temperature controller from the perspective of fuzzy control. The problem is that because mold temperature machines may need to replace heaters with different powers, and there are differences in the thermal and physical properties of various injection molding materials, fuzzy control methods based on expert experience will not be able to adapt well to this change in temperature control environment. This makes it possible for a fuzzy control strategy that works normally in one temperature control environment to cause an undesirable phenomenon of overshoot in another temperature control environment.
